DMC Chiller Slab Replacement

About this Project

Location: Detroit, Michigan
Project Type: Concrete Restoration

RAM was contracted by the Detroit Medical Center to address a busy pavilion walkway that had large areas of broken concrete due to a burst chiller line below the surface. The damage rendered the walkway unusable. RAM moved on the job immediately, helping the local team determine a schedule to not only restore the concrete of the pavilion, but also to coordinate our work around the repairing of the line.

After excavating down 12’ to expose the chiller line, the subgrade material was refilled with proper compaction before a fresh concrete slab was poured. A star pattern was cut into the concrete to match the existing condition prior to the repair.

The project was completed in 90 days with over 17,000 man‑hours, guided by RAM’s strong commitment to jobsite safety and proactive planning, while strict dust and debris control measures ensured minimal disruption to hospital operations.
